Kismet Health
Kismet is a HIPAA-compliant pediatric telehealth platform for providers working with children in a digital play therapy setting. I rebuilt the therapy room in 3 months, from the video call to the games, and stayed on through the acquisition.

01
The problem
A high-quality telehealth platform didn't exist for pediatrics. Providers were left with general telehealth platforms that weren't built for kids, or fell back to video chat products like Zoom that likely weren't HIPAA-compliant.
02
What we built
A full rebuild of the frontend and backend layers
A rebuilt Next.js app on a Rails 8 API, written alongside the backend engineer I hired. Calls, the waiting room, chat and the play canvas moved onto WebSockets in about 2 weeks.
Robust web-based telehealth
Video rooms with a responsive layout, track pinning, screen-share scaling and speaking indicators, built on LiveKit with adaptive streaming tuned for low-power devices and slower connections for users in rural regions.
Multiplayer play therapy
Six real-time games built on KonvaJS with a custom WebSocket sync layer, including digital interpretations of popular play therapy activities like the dollhouse and sandbox.
Full component library with multiple themes
An in-house component library in Storybook to replace MUI, then age-based room themes synced live from provider to patient.
Consent-gated recording
Session recording that checks every participant's consent before it starts.
